Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Construction of Shaanxi Huadian Yangling Thermal Power Company Limited's (Xianyang, Shaanxi) 700-megawatt (MW) Yangling cogeneration project has begun.

The project kicked off on January 3, according to Huadian Shaanxi Energy Company Limited (Xian, Shaanxi), a regional subsidiary of China Huadian Corporation (Beijing).

The Huadian Yangling coal-fired cogeneration power station is located in the Yangling Modern Agricultural Demonstration District. The power station has a total planned capacity of 1,400 MW. Four 350-MW units will be built in phases. The first stage includes two 350-MW, air-cooling, supercritical, coal-fired, combined heat and power units, together with a high-efficiency electrostatic dust removal device, a flue-gas desulfurization device and selective catalyst reduction (SCR) and low-NOx burners for nitrogen oxide control. Northwest Electric Power Design Institute (Xian, Shaanxi), a subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consultancy Corporation (Beijing), is responsible for the design and engineering of the project. Total investment of the project will be about $500 million.

The National Energy Administration approved the project in March 2011. The main turbine, generator and boiler equipment procurement contract for the project was awarded to Shanghai Electric Corporation Limited (SH.601727, HK.02727) (Shanghai) and Dongfang Electric Corporation Dongfang Turbines Company Limited (Deyang, Sichuan) in September 2013, respectively. In November 2013, the project received final approval from the National Development and Reform Commission.

According to the schedule, both units of the project will be put into operation in later half of 2015. Upon completion, the project will replace 129 small, coal-fired boilers scattered in the service area. It will be able to supply heat to an area of 13 million square kilometers, and 160 tons per hour of steam for industrial users in the Yangling Modern Agricultural Demonstration District.
