Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The groundbreaking ceremony for CNOOC Gas & Power Group Company Limited's (Zhuhai, Guangdong) Zhuhai gas-fired cogeneration project was held in Gaolan Port Economic Development Zone on October 27, 2011. The project plans to build 12 sets of 390-megawatt (MW), F-Class, gas-fired, combined-cycle units with a total installed capacity of 4,680 MW in 10 years. Two of the units will be built in the initial stage.
The CNOOC Zhuhai gas-fired cogeneration project is one of the key projects listed in the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15) of the Guangdong province, and is an important component of China National Offshore Oil Corporation's (CNOOC) (Beijing) energy strategy. Upon completion, the project will be one of the supportive power sources in the Zhuhai grid and will supply steam for the existing heat users in Gaolan Port Economic Zone. The project also will promote the future operation of natural gas exploited from the South China Sea after landing in Guangdong.
Guangdong has long become the most important strategic base and partner of CNOOC. Early in 2009, CNOOC signed a full-round cooperation framework agreement with Zhuhai City to build a complete upstream and downstream integrated industrial chain in Zhuhai.
The official kickoff of the project means that the Gaolan Port Economic Development Zone has made an important step toward the objective of building into a national level clean energy and petrochemical base. "Upon completion, the cogeneration project will not only effectively alleviate the power shortage, but also will greatly promote the energy conservation and emission reduction efforts in Zhuhai," said Wu Zhenfang, the vice president of CNOOC, in his address at the ceremony.
Among the leaders and representatives from the municipal and provincial governments who attended the ceremony were Zhu Xiaodan, the vice governor of the Guangdong province, and Gan Lin, the director of the standing committee of Zhuhai Municipal Congress.
