Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Construction on WISCO Metal Resources Company Limited's (Wuhan, Hubei) 1.2 million-metric-ton-per-year blast-furnace slag cement manufacturing project began in Wuhan, the capital city of central China's Hubei province, on May 23, 2011, Wuhan Iron and Steel Company Limited (SHA:600005) (WISCO) (Wuhan) announced the following day.
The project occupies an area of three hectares in WISCO's plant area in the Qingshan district of Wuhan City. As a joint venture of WISCO and Engro Corporation Limited (Singapore), WISCO Metal Resources is responsible for the construction and future operations of the project. As reported, total investment in the project will be about $26.8 million.
In early September 2010, WISCO signed an agreement with Engro Corporation Limited to build a 1.2 million-metric-ton-per-year blast-furnace slag cement manufacturing line in WISCO by taking the full utilization of the blast-furnace slag produced in WISCO. Construction of the project mainly comprises the main works and the associated common and auxiliary facilities. The main works consist of the vertical grinding system, which features two 90-ton-per-hour vertical grinding mills with gas transmission pipes and gas furnaces; the raw material system; the finished product system, which includes three 15-meter-diameter and 49.5-meter-high storages, which will have a total storage capacity of 16,500 tons; and three pieces of bulk loading equipment, each capable of loading 175 tons per hour of finish products.
The project uses waste slag from the blast furnace as raw materials, and turns the slag into high-value slag powder, a new type of green construction material with a broad range of application. Construction of the project would be one of the measures of WISCO in expanding its non-steel industries, said WISCO in its announcement.
According to the planning, WISCO will attach more importance to non-steel industries during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15), and try to increase the proportion of non-steel industries from the current 8% to 30% by the end of 2015.
