Construction Under Way at Pierre's Ice Cream Facility in Cleveland

Reported by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Pierre's Ice Cream Company (Cleveland, Ohio) began construction last month on an ice cream production facility adjacent to its corporate offices in Cleveland, Ohio. The expansion was announced a year ago, but was delayed due to the economic downturn. Upon completion, the company hopes to consolidate manufacturing and warehousing operations at its Euclid Avenue site to improve efficiency and lower cost. As a result of this new investment, 85 jobs will be preserved.

Expected to be completed next spring, the 35,540-square-foot facility is expected to cost $8 million and will include state-of-the-art ice cream production and freezing equipment, with several energy-efficient features, such as insulated panels that recycle hot and cold air from the production process to better heat and cool rooms; skylights; and motion-controlled lights. Ray Fogg Building Methods Incorporated (Cleveland) is providing design and construction services for the project. Heritage Equipment Company (Plain City, Ohio) will supply and install manufacturing equipment.

The new facility is expected to double Pierre's Ice Cream production capacity of its frozen products and enable the company to better compete in the frozen dessert market.

Founded in 1932, family-owned Pierre's Ice Cream makes more than 235 varieties and sizes of products under the Pierre's brand, and about 125 varieties and sizes for private labels.
