Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated Houston, Texas). Blaine Construction Corporation (Knoxville, Tennessee) has been awarded the general construction contract for the $56 million expansion project for automotive torque converter manufacturer, Exedy America Corporations plant located in the Eastbridge Business Park, in Mascot, Tennessee.
Plans are to expand the existing 333,000 square foot plant by 86,000 square feet, plus install 350 pieces of new equipment and two to three production lines, as well as upgrade their transmission technology. Site preparations began in May 2004, and overall completion is slated for early Spring 2005, creating 196 jobs. Some equipment bids are still being accepted. The expansion is expected to improve the companys manufacturing capacity to produce nearly 1.43 million units annually. This second expansion is due to high productivity, as well as state and local incentives.
The company first expanded in 2002 by adding 96,000 square feet to the existing 237,000 square foot plant, originally built under the name Daikin.
Exedy America Corporation, a subsidiary of Japan-based corporation, Osaka, was formerly known as Daikin Drivetrain Components Corporation in 1994 when the company first moved to the 138-acre Mascot site, in Knoxvilles Eastbridge Business Park. The company currently employs 340 people. Exedy manufactures torque converters, which are installed in automatic transmissions to serve as clutches in manual-transmission vehicles. Exedy supplies torque converters for Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Nissan. Currently, Exedy is listed as one of the worlds leading manufacturers of automotive clutch assemblies.
