Contractor Awarded for New Window Manufacturing Plant in Illinois

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated Houston, Texas). Pella Corporation (Pella, Iowa), considered to be one of the world’s leading manufacturers of premium-quality windows and doors, has awarded The Weitz Company Incorporated (Des Moines, Iowa) the general construction contract for a grassroot window and door manufacturing plant to be constructed in Macomb, Illinois.

Plans involve the construction of a 275,000 square foot plant on a 45-acre site. The new plant will manufacture wood windows and patio doors, helping the company expand manufacturing operations, and creating 480 jobs. Site preparation is expected to begin in April 2005, with building construction starting in June 2005. Overall completion is slated for Spring 2006. The new facility is anticipated to cost $25 million.

Pella Corporation, originally founded in 1925 as the Rolscreen Company, changed its name in 1992 to Pella Corporation, reflecting its first product offering, a roll-up window screen. The company is headquartered in Pella, Iowa, and holds more than 100 U.S. product and design patents. Pella is considered one of the world’s leading manufacturers of premium-quality windows, entry door systems, storm doors, and patio doors. Originally focusing on upscale homeowners, builders, and designers, the company has expanded its market, allowing do-it-yourselfers to buy its ProLine windows and doors through building supply stores. One select building materials retailer, Lowe’s, features the Pella Design Center. Pella’s products include sliding French and contemporary doors and awning, clad casement, and bay windows. The company currently has 7,400 employees.
