The third largest beer brewer in the U.S., Adolph Coors Company (NYSE:RKY) (Golden, Colorado) is in the final phase of a multi-year, $200 million construction project at a packaging facility in Elkton, Virginia. Coors selected the Shenandoah plant, located at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, as the site for the companys third brewery in a move aimed at future growth and will result in an annual savings of $25 million in shipping cost. Upon startup in the first quarter of 2007, the Elkton brewery will have the ability to brew 6-7 million barrels of beer annually.
Jacobs Engineering Group (Greenville, South Carolina) has primary responsibility for engineering, procurement, and construction management.
The 19-year-old packaging facility employs 465 workers and will add ten new workers when the brewery becomes operational. Coors other brewery operations are in Golden, Colorado and Memphis, Tennessee.
