U.S. Oil Drillers Add Rigs - Baker Hughes reports that for the week ending July 8, the number of rigs drilling for oil in the U.S. increased by 10 to 351, compared with 645 a year ago.
Obama Administration Announces New Rules for Arctic Drilling - On Thursday, the Obama administration unveiled new rules for drilling in the Arctic, which include having a second rig in reserve to bring a well under control in case of a blowout, as well as the submission of plans covering all aspects of a driller's operations.
API: U.S. Oil Well Completions Drop - The American Petroleum Institute (API) announced that the number of oil well completions in the U.S. fell 69% in the second quarter of this year compared with the same period last year.

France Opens LNG Terminal-Electricite de France SA's Dunkirk liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in France received a commissioning LNG shipment from Nigeria on Friday. A second tanker is expected next month before commercial operations begin. (Project: 200004793; Plant: 1089420)

Southern Company Acquires Solar Facilities - Southern Company (NYSE:SO) (Atlanta, Georgia) has announced that a subsidiary has acquired the 74-megawatt (MW) Rutherford Farm solar facility in North Carolina from Cypress Creek Renewables (Santa Monica, California). The company has also acquired the 102-MW Lamesa solar farm in Dawson County, Texas, from RES Americas (Broomfield, Colorado).
