Datang Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for First CHP Power Plant in Xinjiang

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The groundbreaking ceremony for Phase I of the Datang Hutubi Thermal Power Plant, which is the first combined heat and power (CHP) project invested by China Datang Corporation (Beijing) in the Xinjiang autonomous region, was held in Hutubi County, in the Changji prefecture, on September 27, 2010. The vice chairman of Xinjiang autonomous region and the vice president China Datang Corporation were among the leaders and representatives who attended the ceremony, China Datang Corporation announced on October 15.

Datang Hutubi Thermal Power Plant is in Longwangmiao Village, in Hutubi County. The plant will be furnished with two 1,080-ton-per-hour, coal-fired boilers to support two 300-megawatt (MW), subcritical, air-cooling, pump-condensing CHP units, together with flue-gas desulfurization and denitration devices in Phase I. The project will be built and operated by Datang Xinjiang Energy Development Company Limited (Urumqi, Xinjiang), a regional subsidiary of China Datang Corporation established at the end of 2007. Total investment in the project will be about $410 million. According to the schedule, both units will begin operations in 2012.

As reported, upon completion, the project will be able to supply 3.3 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity and 6.1 million gigajoules of heat every year, which will play an important role in ensuring the power supply in the northern areas of the Xinjiang region. The project also will replace more than 140 middle- and small-sized heating boilers scattered in the downtown of Hutubi County, which could reduce the emission of pollutants such as sulfur dioxide and dust, and promote the local social and economic development.
