The project has entered the equipment installation stage, and the first unit is expected to begin operations in March 2014, according to an announcement from the PCCC on March 18, 2013.
Datang International Power's Shizhu Cogeneration Power Project is located in Xituo Town, in Shizhu Tujia Autonomous County. As the first thermal power project invested in Chongqing by Datang International Power, the listed flagship of China Datang Corporation (Beijing), the project will be furnished with two 350-megawatt (MW), coal-fired, supercritical units, together with high-efficiency electrostatic dust-removing devices, flue gas desulfurization and denitration devices, and an online flue gas continuous monitoring system, with a total investment of about $450 million.
The project will be connected to Chongqing Grid via two circuits of 220-kilovolt transmission lines. The turbine, generator and boiler equipment for the project will be supplied by Dongfang Electric Corporation (Chengdu, Sichuan) (SH.600875). Southwest Electric Power Design Institute (Chengdu, Sichuan) is responsible for the design and engineering of the project.
The project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission on December 15, 2011. Construction of the project kicked off in March 2012. Upon completion, the project will be able to produce more than 4.2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity every year and supply heat and steam to users within its service area, which will promote the economic development of local minority region, and greatly improve the industrial structure in the Three Gorges reservoir area.
