Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The first unit of Chongqing Datang International Shizhu Power Generation Company's (Chongqing) Shizhu Cogeneration Power Plant was connected to the grid and began operations in Chongqing on May 7, 2014, according to an announcement from Sichuan Electric Power Construction No. 3 Company Limited (Chengdu, Sichuan), the construction and erection contractor of the project. The steam turbine was first started on May 4.

A test run of the turbine, generator, boiler, coal handler and ash disposal system helped determine operations were sound, the company said.

The Shizhu Cogeneration Power Plant, located in Xituo Town, Shizhu Tujia Autonomous County in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area, is a joint investment by Datang International Power Generation Company Limited (Beijing) (SH.601991) (70%), the listed flagship of China Datang Corporation (Beijing), and Chongqing Energy Investment Group Company Limited (Chongqing) (30%). The companies invested $450 in the project's initial stage.

The project includes two 350-megawatt (MW) extraction-condensing, steam turbine generating units. Harbin Turbine Company Limited (Harbin, Heilongjiang), Harbin Electric Machinery Company Limited (Harbin, Heilongjiang) and Dongfang Boiler Company Limited (Zigong, Sichuan) supplied the main turbine, generator and boiler equipment.

Construction began in December 2011 after the National Development and Reform Commission approved the project. Both units of the project will begin operations later this year, according to the schedule. Upon completion, the project will be able to supply about 2.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to the Chongqing Grid, and heat to local users.
