Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Fabricated metals play a crucial role in holding together our homes, offices and shopping centers, and U.S. producers are preparing to expand their capacities to make everyday items to insulate houses, improve internet access and develop military tools, among other purposes. Industrial Info is tracking $1.15 billion worth of capital-spending projects in the U.S. fabricated-metal product sector that are set to begin construction from July through September, about 70% of which is attributed to grassroot projects.

Not surprisingly, the highest-valued project set to begin construction in the coming months is expected to create some of the largest products in the sector: modular homes. Admares (Helsinki, Finland) could receive up to $144 million in grants, tax breaks and other incentives from state and local governments, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, to build a $750 million manufacturing plant in Waycross, Georgia, that will manufacture prefabricated homes and components.

The facility is expected to produce between 5,000 and 6,000 prefabricated homes per year. "This project will not only bring more opportunities to hardworking Georgians, it will also help innovate the home building industry at a time when we need more rural workforce housing," said Gov. Brian Kemp (R) when the project was announced in May. Other projects are catering to some of the fastest-growing demand in the housing and industrial markets. CommScope Incorporated (Claremont, North Carolina) is preparing for a $30.3 million expansion of its fiber optic cable-manufacturing plant in Catawba, North Carolina, which the company says already is the largest hybrid-fiber-coax facility for broadband networks in the world. CommScope's added capacity will produce a new fiber optic cable that is specifically designed for rural areas, which are seeing some of the strongest demand for the product. The sector for fabricated-metal products also covers "building block" components for construction, such as metal panels used in walls and rooves. ATAS International Incorporated (Allentown, Pennsylvania) is getting ready for a $15.5 million expansion of its metal building panel-manufacturing plant in Allentown, which is expected to nearly double the facility's size from 65,000 to 118,000 square feet, to support new product lines. Subscribers can learn more from a detailed project report.

Everyday consumer items also are seeing capacity expansions. Wanzl North America, a subsidiary of Wanzl GmbH & Company KGaA (Leipheim, Germany), is preparing for $15 million in upgrades to its shopping cart-manufacturing plant in Newton, North Carolina. Wanzl is moving its North American headquarters to the Lincoln Commerce Center in Denver, a small city northwest of Charlotte. Subscribers can learn more from a detailed project report.

Industrial equipment also is set to see a boost. Lexair Incorporated (Lexington, Kentucky) is preparing for an $8.5 million expansion of its hydraulic and pneumatic control valve-manufacturing plant in Lexington, to house assets from Emerson Electric Company's (NYSE:EMR) (St. Louis, Missouri) Keystone brand for U.S. Navy trademarks. Subscribers can learn more from a detailed project report.

Similarly, Polyhose India Private Limited (Tamil Nadu, India) is bolstering its North American operations with the $8 million expansion of its valves and fittings plant in Wilmington, North Carolina. The company is nearly doubling its space by adding 60,000 square feet to its existing 60,700-square-foot facility, which manufactures fluid power valves and hose fittings. Subscribers can learn more from a detailed project report.
