Diversified Fuels Shooting for Spring ’08 Construction Start on Idaho Biodiesel Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Privately held Diversified Fuels (Buhl, Idaho), has held its golden-shovel groundbreaking ceremony in Buhl and is shooting for an official spring 2008 construction start on a biodiesel plant. The project is located at a barley receiving, cleaning and transfer station formally owned by Molson-Coors just east of Buhl on Highway 30. The company will continue to operate the grain-handling facility until the plant’s design work is completed.

Design work is being done by turnkey engineering, procurement and construction contractor DISCO Associates (Salt Lake City, Utah). After drawings are completed after the first of the new year, construction on the biodiesel plant is scheduled to start around March or April 2008. Plans call for the construction of a 40 million-gallon-per-year biodiesel plant that will process more than 1,100 tons per day of canola oilseeds into the renewable fuel. The plant will crush, refine and process the oilseed on-site to provide the feedstock for the biodiesel plant. Phase II of the project involves plans to increase the plant’s capacity to 400 million gallons per year as the market for the fuel grows.

Construction of the $125 million plant is expected to take 12 to 14 months to complete, and the facility is expected to be running at full capacity by mid-2009.

Only one other biodiesel plant is operating in the “The Gem State.” Blue Sky Biodiesel LLC began operating a 5 million-gallon-per-year plant in October 2006 and plans to ramp up production to 12 million gallons in the future.
