Dongfang Electric to Supply Five 600-Megawatt Supercritical Units to India

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Dongfang Electric Corporation Limited (SHA:600875) (DEC) (Chengdu, Sichuan) has signed an equipment contract to supply two 660-megawatt (MW) supercritical coal-fired units for Phase I of East Coast Energy Private Limited's (Andhra Pradesh, India) the Bhavanapadu Thermal Power Project in the Srikakulam District of Andhra Pradesh.

On the same day, the main equipment contract was signed between DEC and the government of Tamil Nadu for the supply of one 600-MW unit for Phase III of the Mettur Thermal Power Station. Additionally, the equipment contract between DEC and the government of Rajasthan for the supply of two 600-MW units for the Kalisindh Thermal Power Station in the Jhalawad district was signed. The investment value of the two contracts will be over $588 million, meaning that DEC has received orders for the export of five sets of 600-megawatt level supercritical units to India within a month.

The successful winning of these contracts is another important achievement in DEC's effort to expanding the company's international market, said DEC in its announcement. While steadily increasing its market share in China, DEC is accelerating expansion in overseas market. In order to better serve clients in India, DEC established Dongfang Electric (India) Company Limited in Calcutta, India. The foundation-laying ceremony for the service center was officially held on November 10. This is the first company established by a Chinese power equipment manufacturer in India.

DEC has received orders of 52 units with a total installation capacity of 20 gigawatts for 17 overseas projects since 2004. So far, DEC has successfully delivered 3 units for commercial operation in India.
