Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has invited international developers to submit expressions of interest for the 1,600-megawatt (MW) seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, with a potential to expand to 2,000 MW. The deadline for submissions is 21 March 2025.
This phase will feature photovoltaic solar panels and a 1,000-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) with a six-hour capacity, totaling 6,000 megawatt-hours (MWh), making it one of the world's largest solar-plus-storage projects. It is set to commission in phases between 2027 and 2029.
Currently, the solar park operates at 3,460 MW, with 1,200 MW under construction. Upon completion, the seventh phase will generate 4.5 terawatt-hours (TWh) annually, reducing reliance on more than 36 billion cubic feet of natural gas and increasing the park's total capacity to 7,260 MW. The expansion will boost Dubai's clean energy share from 27% to 34% by 2030 and cut carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from 6.5 million to 8 million tonnes annually, strengthening Dubai's global leadership in sustainability.
