EIA for Sichuan Investment Group's 700-Megawatt, Combined-Cycle Project Approved

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The environmental impact assessment (EIA) report for Sichuan Investment Group Company Limited's (Chengdu, Sichuan) Dazhou gas-fired, combined-cycle project was approved by the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) recently, according to an announcement made by the MEP on November 12, 2010.

The Dazhou project is at Wangjiawan in Dazhou City, in the Sichuan province. According to the approval, the project will be furnished with 700-megawatt (MW), gas-fired, combined-cycle generating units, with two 356-ton-per-hour waste-heat boilers. The project will replace 281 MW of small, coal-fired units in five power plants in the Sichuan province, including Sichuan Investment Group's Bashu Jiangyou Power Plant; Mingtai Power Generation Company Limited's thermal power plant in Yihan County, Dazhou; Dazhu Electric Power Company's power plant; and Kaijiang County's coal-fired power plant. The project will use the purified natural gas produced by Puguang Gas Purification Plant. Total investment in the project will be about $343 million, including $6.2 million for environmental protection, accounting for 1.79% of the total investment.

In response to the nation's energy conservation and emission-reduction policy, Sichuan Investment Group proposed to build the project in 2009. In February 2010, the project received consent from the National Energy Administration to begin preparations for construction. Through competitive bidding, the survey and engineering contract for the project was awarded to Southwest Electric Power Design Institute (Chengdu, Sichuan), a regional subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consulting Corporation (Beijing), on September 7, 2010.

The project will be ready to begin construction shortly.
