The work is scheduled to occur during the first quarter of 2004.

By use of static electricity, electrostatic precipitators attract particles similar to the way that static electricity in clothing picks up dust and lint. Electrostatic precipitators are used when the particles are suspended in very hot gases, such as in emissions from power plants. It is also used to reduce fly ash emissions by creating an ionized field that removes charged particles. Baghouses act like giant vacuums that remove the ash and soot from the exhaust gases from the boiler before it goes up the stack. Baghouses reduce ash particle emissions by almost a hundred percent. Some of the ash collected by the baghouses is sold to concrete companies for use as an additive to strengthen cement.

The electrostatic precipitator replacement with baghouse installation is scheduled on one of its two 265 megawatt (MW) coal-fired units. Construction of the project will take at least six weeks.
