Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Brazilian federal holding company Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (Eletrobras) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is planning to construct a 10-gigawatt (GW) hydropower complex on the Tapajos River in the state of Para.
The Tapajos Hydropower Complex has a total investment cost of $12 billion and will consist of the 1,800-megawatt (MW) Jatoba Hydropower Plant, the 6,000-MW Sao Luiz do Tapajos Hydropower Plant, and another three hydroelectric power stations. The complex project is currently under market analysis and the company aims to open bids for construction and operation in 2010.
Eletrobras is devoted to the generation and transmission of power energy in Brazil. The company owns and operates six subsidiary companies: Chesf (Pernambuco, Brazil), Furnas (Rio de Janeiro), Eletrosul (Santa Catarina, Brazil), Eletronorte (Brasilia, Goias), CGTEE (Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil) and the Brazilian nuclear power company Eletronuclear (Rio de Janeiro). Eletrobras is the major company of the electric power sector in Latin America.
