Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Energy Northwest (Richland, Washington) has started construction on the $65 million, 32-megawatt (MW) expansion at the Nine Canyon Wind Project located southeast of Kennewick, Washington.
Construction for the Phase III expansion project started earlier this month and is scheduled for full commercial start-up by the end of this year. The project will consist of adding 14 Siemens Power Generation 2.3 Megawatt wind turbines to the existing facility to increase its total nameplate capacity to 96 MW. The project lease covers 5,120 acres of land, only 49 acres are actually used by turbines, access roads, and building maintenance.
RES North America LLC, (Portland, Oregon) will provide the turnkey services for the project. RES and Siemens Power Generation have played an integral part in the development, turbine acquisition, and construction of Phase I and II, and now Phase III. Energy Northwest has positioned Nine Canyon Wind Energy Project as the largest public power owned wind project in the nation.
