PIPELINES
Court Orders Shutdown of Dakota Access Pipeline - A U.S. court ordered the shutdown of the Dakota Access oil pipeline on Monday over concerns about its potential environmental impact. According to the ruling, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers violated the National Environmental Policy Act when it granted an easement to Energy Transfer LP (NYSE:ET) to construct and operate a segment of the oil pipeline beneath Lake Oahe in South Dakota, because they failed to produce an adequate Environmental Impact Statement. The court ordered Energy Transfer to shut and empty the 570,000-barrel-per-day line within 30 days. (Reuters)
Denmark Gives Nod to Restart Nord Stream 2 Project - Denmark on Monday gave Nord Stream 2 permission to use pipe-laying vessels with anchors to complete the final stretch of the gas pipeline in Danish waters, removing a key obstacle for the much-delayed project designed to bring more Russian natural gas to Europe. The Trump administration opposes the project on the grounds it would strengthen Russia's economic grip over Europe. Construction of the 1,230-kilometer pipeline is nearly finished, but it needs to complete a final stretch of roughly 120 kilometers in Danish waters. (Reuters)
NATURAL GAS
U.S. Gas Futures Jump to Five-Week High on Warmer Weather - U.S. natural gas futures jumped to a five-week high on Monday on forecasts calling for warmer weather and higher air conditioning demand over the next two weeks than previously expected. Front-month gas futures rose 9.6 cents, or 5.5%, to settle at $1.830 per million British thermal units. That is their highest close since May 29. (Reuters)
