Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Lower Colorado River Authority (Austin, Texas) has awarded the building contract of the estimated $70 million Bastrop County Peaking station to a consortium of General Electric, Utility Engineering and The Industrial Company (TIC).

The 180-megawatt (MW) gas/oil-fired simple-cycle plant will be in Cedar Creek, Texas. Four 45-MW units will be constructed with four General Electric LM6000 combustion turbines.

Utility Engineering (Denver, Colorado) is providing engineering services, and TIC (Steamboats, Colorado Springs) will be in charge of construction.

The Bastrop facility will operate as a "peaking" plant, running only when demand is high.

Construction is scheduled in the first quarter of 2008 with completion expected in the spring of 2009.
