Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Enviva LP (Bethesda, Maryland) is on track to complete construction of its latest fuel pellet mill, which will be located in Franklin, Virginia. The company is using its other mill project in Garysburg, North Carolina, as a sort of lab rat to get the kinks out of the building process and make construction and equipment installations go smoother.
The $60 million, 400,000-ton-per-year fuel pellet mill in North Carolina broke ground in mid-2012 and is expected to be fully operational by mid-2013. The $75 million, 434,000-ton-per-year Virginia mill will follow with a projected start-up date of late 2013 or early 2014.
Enviva has been busy building fuel pellet capacity in North America since 2005, and already has operational facilities in Wiggins and Amory, Mississippi, and Ahoskie, North Carolina. The company's port operations for shipping products to Europe are located in Chesapeake, Virginia, and Mobile, Alabama.
With all five mills running at full capacity, Enviva will have the capacity to produce more than 1.6 million tons per year of fuel pellets destined for European markets. Enviva is one of the largest manufacturers of processed biomass fuel in the form of 100% wood pellets in the U.S. and Europe.
