Evelop's Bligh Blank Wind Park to Start Construction in 2009

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Dutch energy company Evelop (Utrecht), part of the Econcern holding company (Utrecht), is expected to start construction of the Bligh Blank Wind Park in May 2009. The windfarm will have a total capacity of 330 megawatts (MW) and will provide about 330,000 households with power.

The Wind Park, consisting of 110 wind mills with a power output of 3 MW each, will be located 46 kilometers off the coast of Zeebrugge, Belgium, on the Bligh Bank sand bank, an area demarcated by the government for wind power. It is the largest energy project that Evelop has ever undertaken. The cost of the project is around $1.2 billion, which makes it the biggest wind energy project in Belgium.

The project will be built in two phases, each one involving the installation of 55 windmills with a combined capacity of 165 MW. The project will use Vestas V90 wind turbines. Dutch company Van Oord (Rotterdam) will be responsible for installation and the design of the foundations. The turbines will be connected to two sea-based high-voltage substations, which are connected to the Belgian high-voltage electricity network on the mainland via two submarine cables.
