Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--A key panel has approved the feasibility study report for the Gujiao Power Plant expansion project in China's Shanxi province, it was announced on May 6. The study was performed by Shanxi Electric Power Exploration & Design Institute (SXED) (Taiyuan, Shanxi), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing). Nine specialty teams with China International Engineering Consultancy Corporation (Beijing) reviewed the report in April.
Phase III of Shanxi Xingneng Power Generation Company Limited's (Gujiao, Shanxi) Gujiao Power Plant project would increase capacity by 1,200 megawatts (MW).
Shanxi Xishan Coal & Electricity Power Company Limited (SZ.000983) (Taiyuan, Shanxi), a subsidiary of Shanxi Xishan Coal Electricity Group (Taiyuan), is the investor in the Gujiao Power Plant, located about 50 kilometers from Taiyuan in Gujiao County in the Shanxi province. With the expansion, the power plant would have a capacity of 3,000 MW, and would use low-heat-value inferior coal as fuel. The plant has two 300-MW units that were built in the first phase of the program, and two 600-MW units built in the second phase.
The third phase of the expansion will include two 600-MW circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers with supercritical air-cooling steam turbine generating units. The project also includes a slate of air pollution control devices to keep emissions levels within national standards.
The project is part of Shanxi province's power industry development plan. The expansion program is scheduled to kick off by the end of this year, with operations to begin by the end of 2016.
