Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--GD Power Wuwei Power Generation Company Limited's (Wuwei, Gansu) Wuwei coal-fired cogeneration project recently received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), according to an announcement from the Development and Reform Commission of Gansu Province on April 28, 2014.
The project is to be invested by GD Power Development Corporation Limited (SH.600795) (Beijing), the listed flagship of China Guodian Corporation (Beijing). According to the approval, the project will be built with two 350-megawatt (MW), supercritical, coal-fired, air-cooling cogeneration units, with flue gas desulfurization, NOx controls, high-efficiency electrostatic precipitators, and related environmental protection facilities. Total investment in the project will be about $500 million.
Early in 2006, the feasibility study report for the project passed the examination of an expert panel. In July 2009, the project application report was submitted to the National Energy Administration (NEA) for approval. In March 2011, the project received consent from the NEA to kick off pre-stage preparations. Based on the original plan, the project was set to begin construction in late 2011 and begin operations in 2013. However, due to the bad market situation, the project failed to kick off as scheduled.
Construction of the project is expected to kick off shortly. The project owner is working closely with Northwest Electric Power Design Institute (Xian, Shaanxi), the project designer, for the review of related issues. According to the latest schedule, the project will kick off construction in the second half of this year, and both units will be begin operations in 2016.
Upon completion, the project will be able to supply heat to more than 13 million square meters and replace 305 small, inefficient coal-fired boilers that have heavy pollutant emissions in their service areas.
