Feasibility Study Report of 1,200-Megawatt Project in Hunan Province Approved

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The feasibility study report for the 1,200-megawatt (MW) Datang Huayin Huaihua power plant project was approved at a meeting held in Huaihua City in central China's Hunan Province on November 5-6, 2007. The report was prepared by Hunan Electric Power Design Institute (HEPDI) (Changsha, China).

The Huaihua power plant's location offers advantages in coal resources and transportation. The project is a step toward improving the power structure by using both hydropower and thermal power to enhance the province's peak-load regulation capability. The project also promotes local economic development, as well as the development of a "Grand West Hunan."

The panel of experts who approved the feasibility report also visited the project site.

Datang Huayin Huaihua Power Plant is in Huaihua City in Hunan. The project has a total planned capacity of 2,400 MW with four 600-MW units. Two supercritical coal-fired units are planned for Phase I. Pre-stage preparation was started in the 1980s, but no material progress was achieved until 2003. Datang Huayin Electric Power Company Limited (Changsha, China), a subsidiary of China Datang Corporation (Beijing) in Hunan, was selected as the owner of the project. Pre-stage preparation of the project has been accelerated. The total investment of the project will be about $672 million.
