Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--FireBox Energy Systems (Calgary, Alberta) plans to construct a biomass-fired electrical generation station in Glenevis, Alberta.
The proposed plant will be known as the John W. Murray power plant and will generate 30 megawatts (MW) of power. Depending on the success of the plant, a 270-MW plant could be added to the site in the future. The facility will use FireBox's proprietary AirBoiler technology, which produces electricity from combustible feedstocks without the use of water.
Firebox plans to begin construction in the late second quarter or early third quarter of this year. The plant should take about 13 months to complete. Cord WorleyParsons Limited (Calgary, Alberta) has been selected as the general contractor for the project.
The plant will be located on designated lands of the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation Reserve No. 133 near Glenevis, Alberta, which is about 95 kilometers west of Edmonton.
There are two other biomass power stations in the planning stages for Alberta, which will have a projected combined output of 55 MW.
