Firestone Hires Contractor to Engineer Wastewater Treatment Expansion at Louisiana Plant

Firestone Polymers LLC (Akron, Ohio) is moving forward with plans to install new technology and increase the yield of metals from its wastewater discharge stream within its Lake Charles, Louisiana synthetic rubber plant. Firestone recently awarded Environ Corporation (Houston, Texas) a basic engineering package to design and engineer a solution to remove metals from an estimated 1.2 million gallon per day wastewater treatment process.

The new unit and equipment will possibly be skid mounted and consist of multimedia or carbon absorption filters, as well as supporting ion exchange equipment. Approval for this project is expected in the coming months, with construction tentatively scheduled to begin in October 2005, with completion in during the first part of 2006. Tie-ins to existing process systems could be performed during planned maintenance turnarounds.
