Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Following its successful connection to grid on April 26, 2011, the first 600-megawatt (MW), supercritical unit of Guizhou Xingyi Electric Power Development Company Limited's (Xingyi, Guizhou) Xingyi Power Plant was ready to operate with a high load at 500 MW or above on May 5. This is the first supercritical unit to be commissioned in Guizhou province, according to statements from China Southern Power Grid Company Limited (Guangzhou, Guangdong) at a news conference on May 9.
Xingyi Power Plant, which is in Qianxi Village, in Xingyi City, is a typical pithead power plant jointly invested by Guizhou Development and Investment Corporation Limited (Guiyang, Guizhou) (42%), Guangxi Investment Group Company Limited (Nanning, Guangxi) (41%), Guizhou Zikuang Energy Development Company Limited (15%) and Qianxinan Xingyue Energy Development Company Limited (2%). The power plant has a total planned capacity of four 600-MW, coal-fired units. Two 600-MW, supercritical, coal-fired units were planned in Phase I. Guizhou Electric Power Survey & Design Institute (Guiyang) and Southwest Electric Power Design Institute (Chengdu, Sichuan) are jointly responsible for the design and engineering of the project. Guizhou Electric Power Construction No.1 Company (Guiyang) is responsible for the construction and erection of the project.
Xingyi Power Plant is the first project in the third batch of key power source projects that are planned in Guizhou, and is listed in the 11th Five-Year Plan, both in the Guizhou province and Guangxi autonomous region. As the project is close to Guangxi, it will play an important part in the southern passage of the nation's program to transmit power to the eastern regions.
Phase I of the project received preliminary approval from the National Energy Administration (NEA) in February 2009, and approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the top planner in China, in October 2009. Construction of the project then kicked off on November 28, 2009.
Presently, the unit is under 168-hour, full-load trial operation. Construction of the flue-gas desulfuration device for the second unit is under way. According to the schedule, the second unit of the project is expected to be put into commercial operation by the end of September 2011. With the commissioning of this project, the reliability of power supply in the Guizhou Grid, as well as the capability of Guizhou Grid in transmitting power out of Guizhou, will be greatly improved, said the China Southern Power Grid Company in its announcement.
