Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The first boiler in the first 600-megawatt (MW), supercritical unit at Guizhou Xingyi Electric Power Development Company Limited's (Xingyi, Guizhou) Xingyi Power Plant was ignited on February 22. The 1,200-MW Phase I of Xingyi Power Plant, also the first supercritical unit in Guizhou province, is ready to begin operations shortly.

Xingyi Power Plant, which is in Qianxi Village, in Xingyi City, is a typical pit-head power plant jointly invested by Guizhou Development and Investment Corporation Limited (Guiyang, Guizhou) (42%), Guangxi Investment Group Company Limited (Nanning, Guangxi) (41%), Guizhou Zikuang Energy Development Company Limited (15%) and Qianxinan Xingyue Energy Development Company Limited (2%). The power plant has a total planned capacity of four 600-MW, coal-fired units. Two 600-MW, supercritical, coal-fired units will be built in Phase I. Guizhou Electric Power Survey & Design Institute (Guiyang) and Southwest Electric Power Design Institute (Chengdu, Sichuan) are responsible for the design and engineering.

The project was the first of the third batch of key power-source projects planned in the Guizhou province, and was listed in the 11th Five-Year Plan of both Guizhou and the Guangxi autonomous region. As the project is close to Guangxi, it will play an important part in the southern passage for the nation's program to transmit power to the easternmost areas.

The Phase I project received preliminary approval from the National Energy Administration in February 2009, and approval from the National Development and Reform Commission in October 2009. Construction of the project kicked off in November 2009. According to the schedule, the first unit is expected to begin commercial operation in April this year, and the second unit will be put into commercial operation in the first half of this year.
