Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The first unit of Guodian Ningxia Younglight Ningdong Chemical Company Limited's (Xining, Ningxia) coal-based, 660-megawatt (MW) Ningdong Cogeneration Power Project passed the 168-hour, full-load trial operation and was put into commercial operations on June 27, 2013, according to an announcement from Ningxia Electric Power Construction Company (NEPCC) (Xining, Ningxia), the construction contractor of the project, on June 28, 2013.

During the trial operation, the unit stayed at a 333-MW load level, with a measured maximum shaft vibration at 68 micrometers. All automations and protections were fully operational, and various indicators were reported to be rated at an "excellent" level.

As a support project to the owner's coal-based chemical industrial park, which is located in Ningdong Energy and Chemical Base of Lingwu City, in northwestern China's Ningxia autonomous region, Ningdong Cogeneration Power Project is invested by Guodian Younglight Energy & Chemical Group Company Limited (Xining, Ningxia), a subsidiary of China Guodian Corporation (Beijing), with a total investment of about $470 million. The project is furnished with two 330-MW, coal-fired air-cooling units, together with associated heat supply pipeline works. The main turbine, generator and boiler equipment for the project are all made by Shanghai Electric Corporation (Shanghai).

The project received final approval from the National Development and Reform Commission in March 2013. Construction of the project kicked off after that. Following the kickoff of the project, NEPCC has energized the plant service power supply and performed a boiler water pressure test, steam turbine box-up, boiler ignition and steam turbine startup, despite a series of unfavorable factors.

Presently, NEPCC is working closely with related parties for the construction of the second unit. According to the schedule, the second unit will be commissioned in September 2013. Upon completion, the project will be able to supply 660 tons per hour of steam and heat to an area of 4.2 million square meters.
