Four Companies Form Joint Venture to Build Nuclear Power Plant in Anhui Province

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Shenergy Company Limited (Shanghai) (SHA:600642) and Anhui Wenergy Company Limited (Hefei) (SHE:000543) announced on September 26 that they will create joint venture company called Anhui Nuclear Power Company Limited (AWNPC) in Wuhu with China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation (Shenzhen) and the Shanghai Electric Power Company (Shanghai) (SHA:600021). The joint-venture firm will be responsible for the construction and operation of the Wuhu Nuclear Power Station Phase I project.

The plant will be located at the south bank of the Yangtze River in Fangchang County. The project also lies at the passage for transmitting power from Anhui to eastern China and near the load center in the Yangtze River Delta. The project involves the construction of four 1,000-megawatt (MW) pressurized-water-reactor nuclear power units with an expected annual output of about 30 billion kilowatt-hours upon completion. Two of the units will be built in Phase I.

The companies have submitted a project proposal to the National Development and Reform Commission. Their goal is to put Phase I into commercial operation during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan (2006-10) and the entire project into commercial operation during the Twelfth Five-Year Plan (2011-15).
