LNG
U.S. Regulators to Inspect Freeport LNG Plant in September
- The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will inspect Freeport LNG's (Houston, Texas) shuttered liquefied natural gas (LNG) export plant in Texas in September, the agency said on Tuesday. The plant shut on June 8 because of a fire and was expected to remain out of service until late October, according to past statements from Freeport LNG. Both FERC and the U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration said they would not allow the facility to return to service until they approve of that restart. NATURAL GAS
EU Considers 15% Reduction in Natural Gas Use
- The European Union (EU) is considering a voluntary 15% cut in natural gas use by member states beginning next month on concern that Russia may halt supplies of the fuel, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday, citing EU diplomats. (Reuters)

U.S. Natural Gas Futures Slide - U.S. natural gas futures fell about 3% on Tuesday. That price decline came despite a preliminary one-day drop in output on Tuesday and forecasts for hotter weather and higher air conditioning demand next week than previously expected. Front-month gas futures fell 21.5 cents, or 2.9%, to settle at $7.264 per million British thermal units. (Reuters)
