Fuel Ethanol Plant in Ohio to be Operation by End of April

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Guardian Lima LLC (Lima, Ohio), a subsidiary of Guardian Energy LLC (Janesville, Minnesota) is in the final commissioning stages of its fuel ethanol production plant in Lima. Production is expected to begin by the end of this month.

Greater Ohio Ethanol LLC (Lima) commenced construction on the $70 million project in 2005. Due to various delays, the plant was not operational until July 2008. Citing design flaws, excessive water usage, and a volatile market, Greater Ohio Ethanol filed for bankruptcy the following October and shuttered the plant. Guardian Energy purchased the plant in November 2010 and hired ICM (Colwich, Kansas) to perform the retrofit and upgrades.

Guardian Lima is on Houx Parkway in Lima, approximately 91 miles northwest of Columbus, Ohio. The facility will convert 20 million bushels of corn into 54 million gallons of fuel ethanol annually and will have about 30 employees.

Ohio currently has five operational fuel ethanol plants that produce nearly 440 million gallons annually. Eight other plants are in various planning stages.
