Georgia Automotive Tier Supplier Expands Operations in Rome

Reported by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). F&P Manufacturing Incorporated (Tottenham, Ontario), a North American subsidiary of F-Tech Incorporated (Shobu-machi, Japan), recently announced a $5.5 million investment in its Rome, Georgia, division, F&P Georgia Manufacturing USA, to transfer welding and assembly equipment to the Rome plant from a sister plant, DYNA-MIG (Stratford, Ontario) in Troy, Ohio.

The Georgia plant has only recently completed a $20 million, 65,000 square foot expansion to its original 145,000 square feet, for a total of 210,000 square feet, for a stamping operation, which boasts two hydro-forming presses - one with 100 tons of force, which can press twenty to seventy parts per minute, and one 3000-ton press, which can press twenty parts per minute. The ISO 9002, QS 9000, ISO 14000 certified plant (which has also just been awarded a TS16949 certification) stamps, welds, and assembles 24 different subframe parts from raw steel, before sending them to painting (a new electrostatic dip process, new to the U.S.), welding, and assembly areas, and produces some 650 front subframes a day, primarily for Honda and Nissan.

Parent company, F-Tech Incorporated (Minami-Saitama, Japan), is a family-owned and operated corporation that has grown by leaps and bounds since its founding in 1947. Three generations of the Fukuda family were recently in Georgia for the celebration of the opening of the new expansion, Jiroku Fukuda, Founder, Akihide Fukuda, Chairman, and Yuichi Fukuda, President of F&P Georgia. Other subsidiaries in the North America include, besides the Georgia operation, F&P Manufacturing Incorporated (Tottenham, Ontario), F&P America Manufacturing Incorporated (Troy, Ohio), which facility also includes sister companies F-Tech North America Incorporated and F-Tech R&D North America Incorporated, and DYNA-MIG Manufacturing of Stratford Incorporated (Stratford, Ontario), as well as a plant in Juareguí, Querétaro, Mexico.

The company was founded in Soka-Saitama, Japan, in 1947, as Fukuda Seisakusho and manufactured metal toys. In 1959, the company began negotiations with Honda Motor Company to make automotive parts, and in 1964, changed its name to Fukuda Press Kogyo Incorporated, later moving its headquarters to Shobu-machi, Saitama Prefecture, Japan, and in 1988, once again changed its name to F-Tech Incorporated. But in spite of the fact that business is booming, the company is not resting on its laurels. It remains in the forefront of automotive components research and development and continually improves and upgrades both its manufacturing processes and its physical plants.

F&P America Incorporated was established in Ohio in 1993, and sister companies, F-Tech North America and F-Tech R&D North America, in 2003. DYNA-MIG, established in 1997, is owned 71.43% by F-Tech and 28.57% by Fukuda Engineering Company Limited (Kita-Saitama, Japan).
