Germany's Eppendorf Invests $25 Million to Expand U.S. Biomedical Production in Connecticut

Reported by Annette Kreuger, Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--In a departure from the trend of U.S. manufacturers looking overseas for growth, German life science company Eppendorf AG (Hamburg, Germany) is investing $25 million to expand its biomedical production plant in Enfield, Connecticut. Operating under the name of Eppendorf Manufacturing North America, the move supports the company's continued growth into the strong U.S. research market.

Eppendorf established operations in Enfield in 2004 with the purchase of the 192,000-square-foot former Jagenberg Incorporated production facility.The 130,000-square-foot building addition will support further expansion and production of Eppendorf's product line of pipettes and other equipment used in research laboratories.

Eppendorf's decision to expand in Enfield was helped by local property-tax incentives. One of the city's top employers, the company expects to add up to 90 employees when the project is completed at the end of the year. Project team members include engineers J.R. Russo & Associates (East Windsor, Connecticut) and contractor AZ Corporation (North Stonington, Connecticut).
