Green Plains Renewable Energy Breaks Ground on Second Fuel Ethanol Plant in Iowa

Green Plains Renewable Energy, Incorporated (Las Vegas, Nevada) and wholly-owned subsidiary Superior Ethanol, LLC (Superior, Iowa), a new subsidiary acquired by the company back in February of 2006, held a silver shovel groundbreaking ceremony last week to kick off preliminary construction activity on a new fuel ethanol plant that will be located in Superior, Iowa.

Plans call for the creation of a nameplate 50 million-gallon per year fuel ethanol plant that will convert 18 million bushels per year of corn into the renewable fuel and also produce 150,000 tons of distiller’s dried grains annually. Construction costs to build the plant are estimated at $70 million.

The plant is being designed and built by Agra Industries (Merrill, Wisconsin) and will utilize Delta-T Corporation (Williamsburg, Virginia) licensed process technology.

Construction is expected to take twelve to fourteen months to complete, and the plant is scheduled to be operational by October of 2007, just in time for the new corn harvest. Once the plant becomes operational, approximately 33 new jobs will be created.

The company is also building a 50 million-gallon per year plant in Shenandoah, Iowa that started construction back in March of this year under the direction of Fagen, Incorporated (Granite Falls, Minnesota). It is expected to be operational by the late spring or early summer of 2007.
