Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--A panel has cleared the way for a grid connection plan for Henan Zhoukou Longda Power Generation Company Limited's (Zhoukou, Henan) 1,200-megawatt (MW) expansion project at the Shangshui Power Plant. The panel, organized by the Henan Development and Reform Commission and Henan Electric Power Company Limited (Zhengzhou, Henan), approved the plan on May 8, allowing preparations for the expansion project to proceed, according to the project designer, Henan Electric Power Design Institute (Zhengzhou, Henan).
The Shangshui Power Plant is located in Zhoukou City, Shangshui County, in central China's Henan province, where the Henan electric grid currently has a weak connection to the provincial grid. The expansion project includes the installation of two 600-MW steam turbine generators to meet the growing power requirements of the area. The two existing 135-MW units at the plant have been shut down.
The project is scheduled to kick off at the beginning of 2015. Both units would begin operations by the end of 2016, replacing small, coal-fired units that generate 462 MW. The feasibility study for the expansion project was approved in January 2013.
