Guatemala Launches Bids for 800 Megawatts of New Power Supply

Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--Guatemala's companies Empresa Electrica de Guatemala SA (EEGSA), Distribuidora Eléctrica de Occidente SA (Deocsa) and Distribuidora Electrica de Oriente SA (Deorsa), all headquartered in Guatemala City, Guatemala, are jointly promoting electrical energy purchase agreements. The companies hope to procure up to 800 megawatts (MW) of guaranteed power to be used by the distribution companies' end users for a period of up to 15 years, starting May 1, 2015.

The generating technologies are divided into two groups: those that employ renewable resources (solar energy, wind power, hydro power, geothermal power, and biomass) and those that use fossil fuels (coal, fuel oil and liquefied natural gas). The power generation can be provided by new or existing power stations.

Bidding rules can be acquired at the distribution companies' headquarters at a non-refundable price of $15,000, or $1,000 if the interested firms are distributed renewable generating companies.

Proposals will be accepted until January 26, 2012. Contract awards are scheduled for March 8, 2012.
