Horizon Wind Completes $200 Million Windfarm in Illinois

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Rail Splitter Wind LLC, a subsidiary of Horizon Wind Energy LLC (Houston, Texas), a subsidiary of Energias de Portugal S.A. (ELI: EDPSE) (Lisbon, Portugal), has completed construction of a $200 million, 100.5-megawatt (MW) Rail Splitter Windfarm located between both Logan and Tazewell Counties, south of Hopedale, Illinois and several other towns.

Construction of the project began in the fall of 2008 and was completed this summer. Horizon commenced commercial operation of the project this month. The project consisted of constructing (67) 1.5-MW General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) 1.5sle model wind turbine generators with a production capacity of more then a 100-MW. The turbines are constructed along I-155 south of Hopedale running thru Delavan all the way to Emden. The power produced by Rail Splitter will be enough renewable energy to power nearly 30,000 homes in the area.

White Construction Incorporated, located in Clinton, Indiana provided the turnkey services throughout the duration of construction for the new facility.
