Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Central China's Hunan Province is planning to build four large-scale coal-fired power plants with a total installed capacity of 16 gigawatts (GW) in Yueyang City by taking advantage of the proposed national special coal transportation railway from West Inner Mongolia to Central China. The aim of the project is to eliminate the local power shortage.
The four proposed plants include Shenhua Guohua Electric Power Corporation Limited (Beijing)'s Yueyang Power Plant located in Huarong County; Huaneng Hunan Yueyang Power Company Limited (Yueyang, Hunan)'s Yuezhou Power Plant located in Yuezhou County; Guodian Hunan Power Company Limited (Changsha, Hunan)'s Miluo Power Plant located in Miluo, a county-level city under Yueyang; and China Huadian Corporation (Beijing)'s Pingjiang Power Plant located in Pingjiang County.
Each of these four power plants will have a planned capacity of 4 GW, with two 1,000-megawatt (MW) units to be built in the initial stage. Construction of these four power plants will provide a strong support for the local economic development.
Demand-side analysis has been completed for the four projects. In the next stage, Hunan Electric Power Company (Changsha, Hunan) will start to work on the scheme for grid connection of these projects.
Central China's Hubei, Hunan and Jiangxi provinces lack coal resources and their hydropower resources are close to exhaustion. In order to meet the increasing power demand in the region, the Central Government of China has proposed to build a special coal transportation railway from Ordos City in the west of Inner Mongolia, passing through Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, and ending at Ji'an of Jiangxi province, with a total length of about 1,817 kilometers. Construction of the first section from Jingzhou of Hubei province to Yueyang of Hunan province was kicked off in later 2013. Upon completion, the railway will be able to transport about 200 million metric tons of coal to Central China each year.
