Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The examination meeting on the feasibility study report for the Huaneng Yuezhou Power Plant Phase I project was held in Yueyang from July 17-19, 2013, and organized by the Electric Power Planning and Engineering Institute (EPPEI) (Beijing). More than 80 leaders and experts from the EPPEI, Central China Power Grid Company Limited (Wuhan, Hubei), China Huadian Group (Beijing) and related provincial, municipal and county government departments attended the meeting, according to an announcement from the local government on July 22.
During the meeting, the feasibility study report passed the examination of an expert panel. According to the report, the project will be furnished with two 1,000-megawatt (MW) ultra-supercritical, coal-fired units, together with flue gas desulfurization and denitration devices, with a total investment of about $1.3 billion in the initial stage.
The Huaneng Yuezhou Power Plant is located in Yueyang County of central China's Hunan province. The power plant has a total planned capacity of 4,000 MW to be built in phases.
For the newly proposed Inner Mongolia-Central China Coal Transportation Railway, China Huaneng Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the government of Hunan province for the construction of a high-efficiency, coal-fired power base in northern Hunan in September 2012. Construction of the project could convert the coal, which would be shipped into Hunan via the proposed special railway, into power at short distance. This could reduce transportation costs and alleviate the transportation burden in Hunan.
According to the schedule, construction of the project is expected to kick off in 2014. Both units will begin operations, along with the proposed Inner Mongolia-Central China Coal Transportation Railway, in 2017. With the adoption of large-capacity and high-efficiency ultra-supercritical units, the project is good for the power source structural adjustment and safety operation in Hunan Grid, and likely could meet the increasing power demand in Hunan province.
