Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Iberdrola Renewables USA (Portland, Oregon), a subsidiary of Iberdrola S.A. (MCE:IBE) (Bilbao, Spain), has began construction of an estimated $135 million, 65-megawatt (MW) expansion project at the Dry Lake Windfarm, which is near Holbrook, Arizona.
Construction for the project began earlier this fall and is scheduled to be ready for full commercial operation by the spring of 2011. The project will consist of constructing a total of 31 additional S88-model wind turbines, which are manufactured by Suzlon Energy Limited, for the existing site. Dry Lake currently has a nameplate capacity of 63 MW, and the new expansion will produce a total of 65 MW, giving the facility a total capacity of 128 MW.
When the project is operational, the Salt River Project Agricultural Improvement & Power District (SRP) (Tempe, Arizona) will purchase the entire output capacity of the expansion through a 20-year power purchase agreement. The project will generate enough renewable energy to power nearly 18,000 homes.
D H Blattner & Sons Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota) will provide the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction services for the project throughout construction.
