India Plans 37 Gigawatts of Offshore Wind Energy Bids

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas--India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) plans to launch bids for offshore wind projects with a capacity of 37 gigawatts (GW) in multiple phases by 2030.

These tenders will be launched under Viability Gap Funding (VGF) to address the issue of high costs associated with the initial part of offshore wind capacity. In this model, bidding would be done based on the lowest VGF, on a fixed tariff.

Tamil Nadu and Gujarat have an offshore wind energy potential of more than 70 GW alone, according to the MNRE.
