Indiana Clean Energy to Build 30 Million Gallon Per Year Biodiesel Plant in Indiana

Biodiesel start-up, Indiana Clean Energy LLC (Frankfort, Indiana) is preparing to enter the renewable fuels market with plans to build a new 30 million gallon per year biodiesel plant in Frankfort, Indiana. The company was formed in September 2005; however, its members spent over four years developing the project to this point.

Currently, the project is awaiting final permit approval before moving forward, and the company is anticipating hearing word on the authorization by midyear 2006. They have hired turn-key biodiesel plant builder Renewable Energy Group (Ralston, Iowa) to build the plant and the construction arm of REG, Todd & Sargent will act as the general contractor, hiring local subcontractors to aid in construction.

Plans are to construct a 30 million gallon per year plant that will utilize a continuous transesterification process to convert soybean oil into biodiesel and glycerin. The cost to build the plant is estimated to be in the $60 million range.

With all of the construction activity happening within the biodiesel industry, REG has quite a busy construction schedule of plant projects ongoing. REG estimates a slot might open to start construction during the first quarter of 2007. Construction time is estimated at 10 to 12 months.

The site is located about 40 miles northwest of Indianapolis in Frankfort and the property has good transportation infrastructure, including two major rail lines and major highway access for suppliers and finished product haulage.
