Indiana Leads Great Lakes States with $11 Billion of Industrial Project Construction

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--In 2008, Indiana has become the focal point for industrial project construction in the Great Lakes Region, with 74 major industrial projects under construction totaling more than $11 billion. In addition to Indiana, the Great Lakes Region consists of Kentucky, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. Illinois is the second largest state for industrial projects under construction with 58 projects totaling almost $8 billion currently under way.

One of the largest investments currently under construction in Indiana is a project by Duke Energy (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina) to build a $2.35 billion coal-fired unit at its Edwardsport Generating Station. Site work began earlier this year and construction is scheduled to be complete by late 2011. GE Power Systems (Atlanta, Georgia) and Bechtel Group (San Francisco, California) are providing engineering and construction services for the project. Start-up company, Boerman-Carroll Dairy (Wauseon, Ohio) has begun construction of a new dairy on a 140-acre site in Cutler, Indiana. The dairy will have the capacity to produce 25,000 gallons of milk per day upon completion, which is scheduled for September 2009.

In addition to the work currently under construction, there are more than 200 projects totaling $13.6 billion planned to begin construction in the future. Peabody Energy (NYSE:BTU) (Saint Louis, Missouri) subsidiary Black Beauty Coal Company (Evansville, Indiana), for example, is scheduled to begin construction in April 2009 on a new coal mine near Lynnville, Indiana.
