International Absorbents Continues to Expand with New Plant in Georgia

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). After a busy 2003, expanding operations and sites in their home state of Washington and investing close to $10 million in plant consolidations, International Absorbents Incorporated(AMEX:IAX)(Bellingham, Washington) kept its momentum rolling in 2004 by designing and building a grassroot facility in Jesup, Georgia. Commercial operation is scheduled to start in early December. The construction has been completed and trial production runs will continue through the end of November before full operations commence.

RWP Engineering, based in Savannah, Georgia, provided the engineering and site management duties for the construction of this approximately 100,000 square foot plant. International Absorbents will produce its full line of absorbent products, all of which are derived from waste wood fiber, and range from agricultural, and industrial consumer products, including animal bedding, industrial products used in containing chemical and oil spills, filtration, and packaging. Along with the manufacturing capability, International Absorbents also built a warehouse on the new site that will serve as an Eastern regional hub for the company's storage and transportation needs, thereby cutting spending on freight costs.

International Absorbents Incorporated began operations in 1983 with core products such as careFRESH and HealthyPet, both of which are animal bedding and Absorbent W, used in containing oil-based fluids, such as marine oil spills. International Absorbents now employs almost 100 people and in 2003 had over $15 million in revenues.
