Invenergy Developing Two Solar Projects in Ontario

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Invenergy Solar Canada ULC (Bolton, Ontario) a subsidiary of Invenergy Canada LLC (Bolton) is developing two 10-megawatt (MW) solar energy projects in Ontario. Construction on the photovoltaic solar projects could possibly begin construction in late 2011, depending on the Ontario Power Authority (Toronto). Both solar projects have received a contract under the feed-in tariff program implemented under Ontario's Green Energy Act.

Parent company Invenergy LLC (Chicago, Illinois) and its affiliated companies develop, own and operate large-scale renewable and other clean-energy generation facilities in North America and Europe.

Invenergy Solar Canada ULC's solar projects, known as the Woodville Solar Park and the Sandringham Solar Park, are located near Woodville, Ontario. The solar photovoltaic projects will consist of ground-mounted photovoltaic solar crystalline panels, which convert sunlight into direct current electricity.

The Green Energy and Green Economy Act, introduced into the Ontario legislature on February 23, 2009, could help create up to 50,000 jobs in the next three years. Investments in new renewable energy projects already in place or under construction in Ontario total about $4 billion.

Ontario plans to close all of its coal-fired power plants by 2014. The province is the only jurisdiction in North America to make such a commitment. As a result, Ontario has embarked on an ambitious plan to become a leader in renewable energy development to make up the difference in lost power generation.
