Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Sorgenia SpA (Milan, Italy), which owns and operates the 765-megawatt (MW) Centrale di Termoli power plant in Termoli, Italy, recently completed inspections on the combined-cycle unit. The maintenance was initially scheduled to be performed in the second quarter of this year, but because of mechanical problems, the work was brought forward to March.
The combined-cycle power plant, which began commercial operations in 2006, is equipped with two 255-MW GE Energy MS9001FA combustion turbines with heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) that work with a 255-MW Siemens (NYSE:SI) steam turbine. The two 626,000-pound-per-hour HRSGs were manufactured by Nooter/Eriksen (Fenton, Missouri).
During the 31-day outage, hot gas path inspections were performed on the combustion units, and minor maintenance was performed on the steam unit. These inspections are performed every two years. The next hot gas path inspection is scheduled for 2012, plant officials told Industrial Info.
In Italy, Sorgenia operates a variety of power plants, including thermo and hydro plants, windfarms, and photovoltaic facilities. Sorgenia is a joint venture of CIR SpA (BIT:CIR) (Milan) and Verbund (OTC:OEZVY) (Vienna, Austria). Created in 1999 with the name of Energia SpA, Sorgenia is now one of the most important players in Italy's power market.
