J-Power California LLC Begins Construction of $50 Million Power Project in California

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--J-Power California LLC, a subsidiary of J-Power USA Development Company (Schaumburg, Illinois), has begun construction of the $50 million, 100-megawatt (MW) Orange Grove Peaking Project in Pala, California.

Construction of the project began this month and is scheduled to be complete by the fall of this year. The project will consist of constructing two 50-MW natural-gas-fired GE Energy LM6000 PC SPRINT combustion turbine generators that will operate in a simple-cycle peaking configuration, providing power when energy demands are at their highest, which is usually during the summer and winter months. The project will feature state-of-the-art emissions technology such as selective catalytic reduction for the reduction of nitrogen-oxide emissions and spray inlet cooling for power augmentation.

Rainbow Municipal Water District (Fallbrook, California) will build a new waterline between the existing water main and the facility boundary to provide the project's sanitary and domestic water needs. Once operational, Orange Grove will be connected to the grid via the Pala Substation, which is owned by San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), a subsidiary of Sempra Energy (NYSE:SRE) (San Diego, California). SDG&E will also buy the total output capacity of the new project under a 25-year power purchasing agreement.

Industrial Construction Company (Cleveland, Ohio) will provide the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction services throughout the duration of the construction of the project.
